Oral Surgery & Compassionate Care

Oral Surgery & Compassionate Care

Hello, this is Dr. James Hasken and I want to help our patients and prospective patients have peace of mind and feel at ease about the possible need for oral surgery. For many patients, the word “surgery” invokes feelings of fear and anxiety. Initially, the idea of being put under anesthesia or some form of sedation or numbing and having no control over the outcome causes many people to panic. I’m a General Dentist and if you’re in the need of oral surgery, I can help you at my McHenry dental practice.

Oral Surgery Since 1987 in McHenry

Since 1987, I have had the privilege of performing hundreds of successful oral surgeries at my McHenry dental practice with compassionate care and consideration for your total comfort and well-being. My dental training included extensive oral surgery during my General Practice Residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Chicago. This training has enabled me to perform most oral surgeries and extractions in our office.

Below I have provided some information on the topic of oral surgery in order to help give you insight into what to expect if you should need oral surgery performed.

Oral Surgery is a Common Procedure at our McHenry Dental Practice

Oral surgery is a medical procedure performed by a highly trained professional that’s used to treat dental and oral health problems. Often, oral surgery occurs in the form of a tooth extraction, during which one or more of the teeth are removed from the mouth.

How Do I Know if I Need Oral Surgery?

The only sure way to know if you need oral surgery is to visit a dentist or medical professional. Oral surgery may be performed for a dental emergency or a chronic oral health issue. If you’re experiencing any kind of dental issue or have concerns about your oral health, you should make a plan to visit your dentist as soon as possible. I am always welcoming new patients and would love the opportunity to help you in any way I can.

What Dental Issues May Require Oral Surgery?

Here are a few issues that I may advise oral surgery as part of your treatment plan:
● Broken, chipped or cracked tooth
● Dental trauma
● Tooth decay
● Loose tooth
● Overcrowded teeth
● Risk of periodontal disease

When Do We Refer to Another Oral Surgeon?

Although uncommon, there are certain situations which would require us to refer a patient to another office. Examples include removal of wisdom teeth (third molars) or severely medically compromised patients that have a high-risk medical history and patients requiring sedation. We do however, offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to help our patients relax. We refer to some great local oral surgeons when the need arises. The bottom line is, we want our patients to receive the quality of care with the compassion they deserve with the minimum amount of risk.

Our Oral Surgery COVID-19 Precautions

Our office is currently operating at full service, which means that all dental procedures are available to our patients, including oral surgery. My team and I are taking great care every day to adhere to strict COVID-19 safety protocols. Safety is and always has been our top priority and we apply stringent COVID-19 health and safety protocols to all oral surgeries. If you have questions about how to prepare for your upcoming appointment or oral surgery in general, please contact us. We will be happy to assist you and provide you with the information you need.

With wishes for good health,
Dr. James Hasken
