Oral Surgery

Oral Surgery

Dr. Hasken received much of his surgical training during his General Practice Residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Chicago. The comfort level gained during this training has carried over into the McHenry practice. Many oral surgery procedures are performed in our office. Often these consist of extractions which is the removal of teeth. Many times we preserve the bone contour after extraction for improved esthetics of the replacement that often follows. Prior to patients receiving dentures there may be a need to re-contour bone or remove excess soft tissue to allow for a better, more comfortable fit.

For Your Comfort

We offer nitrous oxide, often referred to as laughing gas, to reduce anxiety for those who request it. This allows you to still be in control during the procedure but the effects of the gas is removed from your system prior to leaving our office.

When We Refer

There are times when it is in the patient’s best interest to be seen by an oral surgeon. These times include patients with certain medical histories, anatomical anomalies of the area being treated or severe infection. Procedures that can be more comfortably performed for the patient where the use of IV sedation is beneficial such as long procedures or multiple areas being treated at the same time such as the case with third molars (wisdom teeth). We will always take into consideration what is best for the patient when considering referral.

Implants

We work as a team with either oral surgeons or periodontists to treatment plan the placement and restoration of the implant. The periodontist or oral surgeon performs the surgical placement and monitoring of the healing phase. Once the implant has integrated with the surrounding bone, we will restore the implant with the final restoration such as a crown, part of a bridge or support for a denture or hybrid full arch prosthesis.

Full Mouth Restoration On Implants

This has received a lot of awareness through television and print media. This process is often a consideration for severely debilitated mouths, replacement for loose, poor fitting dentures or advanced periodontal (gum) disease. These cases require careful planning between the patient, Dr. Hasken, oral surgeon or periodontist and dental lab technician. 3-D scans, x-rays, photos, models of the patient’s teeth are all used in the treatment planning process. We meet as a team face to face to plan for the best possible outcome for the patient. We all have a key role in the outcome of this great restorative option.
